There has been a significant increase in the number of people who have diabetes. The reason is that people do not lead a healthy lifestyle and any type of physical activity is absent from their routine. Diabetes and fitness is important for people who suffer from diabetes to control the level of blood sugar. Diabetes is of two types. In Type 1 diabetes, the body is not able to make enough insulin which can convert the sugar in food to energy. In Type 2 diabetes, the pancreas fail to make enough insulin and the body cannot use the insulin properly.
Diabetes and fitness involve exercising and eating a healthy diet. Exercise is important to maintain weight by burning calories. Exercising regularly helps one’s body to respond to insulin and manage blood sugar. It can also lower the blood sugar level and reduce the amount of medicines one requires to take for treating diabetes. It can improve circulation in arms and legs where people with diabetes can have problems. Exercises help to reduce stress which increases the glucose level. It also helps in reducing the risk of heart attacks by lowering the blood sugar level and cholesterol level in the body.
For remaining fit even if a person has diabetes, the best way to start exercising is to start walking. Walk must be made a routine exercise once a person gets comfortable with it. Low impact exercises like swimming and biking are also good for diabetes patients. One must also consult a doctor before starting with an exercise program to control diabetes and remain fit.
